Mr Christopher Fenech is a Physiotherapist with a Master’s degree in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound which he obtained from Bournemouth University in 2014. He boasts a wealth of experience in musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy through his work within public and private musculoskeletal clinics, and his work with various local sports clubs. Christopher has been lecturing at the University of Malta since 2013.
Maria Falzon: Ms Maria Falzon has been working as a physiotherapist after graduating with the University of Malta in 2009. Maria boasts a 10-year working international experience (UK and Spain) with neuro paediatric cases. Maria obtained a Master’s degree in Disability Studies, after studying the societal impacts over the lives of people with progressive neurological conditions.
Johann Zarb: Mr Johann Zarb obtained a B.Sc.(Hons) in Physiotherapy in 2009, and furthered his studies with a Postgraduate Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics in 2011, and a Master’s by Research, exploring eating and physical behaviors in preschoolers in 2019. Mr Zarb is a state registered Physiotherapist and Nutritionist and is currently providing his services within the Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Directorate. Mr Zarb is also active in the local private sector with a special interest in nutrition, rehabilitation and research.
Maxine Vella Cassia: Ms Maxine Vella Cassia is a physiotherapist currently working in a neurosurgery inpatient setting within the public health sector. She graduated as a physiotherapist from the University of Malta in 2009 and is registered with the Council for Professions Complementary to Medicine. In her years working as a physiotherapist, she gained experience in several areas including respiratory, cardiology, intensive care, paediatrics and rehabilitation. Her main area of interest is inpatient care. In 2018, she obtained a Master’s degree in Health Services Management, with special interest in leadership.
English language support team
Jeanette Theuma: Based in Malta, Jeanette has taught English as a foreign language for over 20 years. Currently, Jean lectures at the University of Malta where the main focus is to differentiate between general and academic English in order to help students improve their performance during their undergraduate studies. Jean also specialises in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) such as Policing, International Relations, Medical English, Radiography and Physiotherapy. Jeanette believes that a communicative, practical approach to learning English benefits and motivates students. Accordingly, she incorporates authentic, hands-on activities to increase the relevance of the material and thus ensure that the lessons are useful and helpful.
Larissa Jonk: Larissa lectures at University of Malta and is currently reading for a PhD with the Centre for English language proficiency (CELP) at the University. She has been involved in the teaching of English for over 25 years. Her expertise covers a range of areas including teaching English to speakers of other languages in specialised contexts, such as English for Radiographers. Other areas involve management of English classes, design of materials, examination of general English and English for specific purposes. Larissa has previously taught on the English for Radiographers and looks forward to this new course which designed for both radiographers and physiotherapists.
